Quick Oilfield Solutions Handheld Field Data Capture System creates efficiencies

Application

A handheld data capture system was being used by operators in gas fields southern Alberta. The handheld computer system captured production and maintenance data and allowed the users to enter their data once during the day then upload it efficiently without recopying the data at the field office. The system also gave the operator historical data and production calculations at hand.

Challenge

The field was sold to another oil and gas producer. Along with the sale came a different production accounting system. As the field data captured system was associated with a competing production accounting software product the efficiencies were now lost and the operators were back to using a clipboard and recopying their data into the computer at the end of the day. Data collection was now averaging a one to two hour time bandit per operator. This was both lowering morale in the area and creating overtime losses as maintenance items were done after the operators manually entered.

Solution

Quick Oilfield Solutions approached the oil and gas producer about adopting the existing handheld data capture for their production accounting product. It appeared that the hardware was now a lost asset for the new owners.

Knowing that no two production databases are that different, and that Quick Oilfield Solution Quick Collect handheld data capture system has survived 15 years of changes in production tracking technology, allowed us to assure our customer that we could efficiently and effectively adapt the Quick Collect software to their production accounting system.

Quick Oilfield Solutions adopted Quick Uploader automated uploading system to use the oil and gas producer’s existing SCADA program to populate their production database. The data collection method that created the efficiencies was maintained but the changes allowed a new production database to be populated by the handhelds.

Since the application of the Quick Collect data capture system in this area Quick Oilfield Solutions has started a pilot for the same client in the central Alberta area. The pilot is to capture maintenance data related to compressors on the handhelds and send the data via internet from our online maintenance tracker (Quick Look) to the optimization company’s database. This is all done without recopying the data or the use of paper at any point.

At the close of that pilot the goal is to maximize the hardware investment for the client by applying the production system to the north field and the optimization product to the south field. The handhelds are currently capable and it is the most efficient case for the QOS Quick Collect field data capture system.

As it sits the operators in the Coaldale area are as efficient as they were before the sale to the new producer. Both our client and QOS are excited for the application of the product in the central Alberta area for maintenance tracking and optimization.
